Bake Muffins and Give Them Away

National Muffin Day, not just Food Day – Symbol of Kindness and Community

Jacob Kaufman is a tech lawyer living in San Francisco, who has been handing out muffins to homeless people in the city on his way to work. This must have been very rewarding for him as he started to do this regularly.  He became known as the “Muffin Man”. Blogger Julia Levy, who writes of ordinary philanthropists, reported his generosity and kindness of connecting with the needy every day over a warm, sweet muffin.

“Bake muffins and hand them out to people experiencing homelessness in their cities… To incentivize volunteers to bake and participate, we’ve donated money to homeless causes for each person who bakes and gives.

Muffin day is giving to the needy

“A muffin won’t solve homelessness, we know that, but it will make more people aware of the needs in their community and to stop and treat them with kindness.”

“…The result has been the muffin movement!  Through our passion and the power of social media, over 1,500 friends, family members and strangers have baked and given away muffins (an estimated more than 15,000 muffins distributed in 45+ cities) to people experiencing homelessness in over twenty-five cities, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars donated to charity…”
